Learn to Laser Cut workshop

From my laser-cutting studio in Sparrowpit, you can learn to create your own laser cut products – whether that be a necklace, bracelet, earrings or a piece of artwork or gift. OR if you know someone who would love to attend a workshop you could buy them a gift voucher which has an open date (1yr).

In my workshops I will teach/show you how to use Inkscape software to create vector files which can be engraved and cut on the laser cutter.  Depending on the class / workshop you pick you may also learn how to sublimation-print onto acrylic (to add patterns to acrylic) or explore how to add acrylic paint into engraved acylic for added colour; or adding colour washes to plywood.

I  offer 1-to-1 tutorials for more extended periods of exploration; please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Workshops are run on a number of different dates and are held with a maximum of 3 people. The different available dates are in the options; including more detail below about what you will be doing.

For most of my workshops or tutorials you will need  to bring your own laptop with Inkscape downloaded (its free here) unless specified otherwise.

There are 3 different workshops – taster, beginner and intermediate.

In the taster workshop you DO NOT need your own laptop as you will not need to use the software or computer to create your design independently. You will be shown how the process works and will be guided through designing and making a simple single pendant/necklace or keyring of your own from a selection of designs. You will then construct the piece yourself using jewellery pliers and basic equipment. This workshop lasts 1.5hrs and you will leave with a single pendant or keyring. This workshop will run with 1-3 people maximum.

In the  beginners (acrylic) workshop you will need your own laptop (with Inkscape installed)  as you will be taught how to use the software to create a single pendant or keyring of your own. You will be shown how to use the different running settings of the laser cutter to cut or engrave; and you will also be shown how to sublimate print patterns onto your acrylic, or to colour-fill engraved parts. You will then construct the piece yourself using jewellery pliers and basic equipment. This workshop lasts 3hrs and you will leave with a single pendant or keyring. This workshop will only run with 2 or 3 people (you will be offered another day/merge workshops if you book alone and no other booking is made for this date.). Basic computer skills required. Refreshments provided.

In the  beginners (plywood) workshop you will need your own laptop (with Inkscape installed)  as you will be taught how to use the software to create a single pendant or keyring of your own. You will be shown how to use the different running settings of the laser cutter to cut or engrave; and you will also be shown how to finish the plywood with spirit pens or veneer. You will then construct the piece yourself using jewellery pliers and basic equipment. This workshop lasts 3hrs and you will leave with a single pendant or keyring. This workshop will only run with 2 or 3 people (you will be offered another day/merge workshops if you book alone and no other booking is made for this date.)Basic computer skills required. Refreshments provided.

The intermediate workshop is an extended version of the beginners workshop and is recommended for those wanting a much more in-depth and longer period of time to get to grips with the laser-cutting process. The workshop includes the same learning points as both the beginner (acrylic) and beginner (plywood) courses with a little more time to develop your design. This workshop lasts 5 hrs and does not include materials which will be charged seperately depending on what you decide to use/amounts (average £5). This workshop will run with 1, 2 or 3 people. Basic computer skills required. Refreshments provided.
